Toy Safety
Hearings
IMCO
Members discussed with the Commission and other invited experts the revision of the current Toy Safety Directive, which has been in force since 2011. The new proposal, adopted by the Commission in July 2023, should make toys even safer for children, as well as further strengthen the single market for toys.
Toys marketed in the Union must be safe for children. Union legislation has for over ten years been imposing among the strictest toy safety standards in the world, including in relation to the use of chemicals. However, in order to keep ensuring the highest standards, the relevant legislation had to be up-to-date and improved as necessary. A IMCO report, adopted in plenary in February 2022 examined the directive's implementation and proposed ways to amend it.
